Why I Started Using AI for Logos
I needed a logo for small project. I had no money for designer. So I tried AI tools like Midjourney and ChatGPT. First tries were bad. My logos looked messy. Too many colors. Too much detail.
Then I learned how to write better prompts. Now my logos look clean and simple. In this post I share prompts that work for me. You can copy them and change words for your brand.
Keep Logo Prompts Simple
This is first thing I learned. Logos must be simple. So prompts must be simple too.
If you ask for too many things, AI gets confused. The result looks busy. A good logo works small and big. It works in one color too.
Here is basic prompt I use:
> minimalist logo for a coffee shop, simple flat design, clean lines, one color, vector style, white background
Words like "minimalist", "flat design", and "vector style" help a lot. They tell AI you want clean look. Not a photo. Not 3D with shadows.
Prompts for Different Logo Types
There are few main logo types. Each one needs different prompt.
Icon or symbol logo:
> simple geometric logo icon of a mountain, flat vector, two colors, modern, minimal, white background
Letter mark logo (uses letters):
> modern monogram logo with letter M, bold typography, clean, black and white, vector style
Mascot logo:
> cute fox mascot logo, flat illustration style, friendly, simple shapes, brand logo
I found that saying the style early in prompt gives better result. Put important words first.
Add Brand Feeling With Style Words
Your brand has a feeling. Maybe it is fun. Maybe it is serious. Maybe it is luxury. Style words help AI understand this.
Some words I use a lot:
- modern, clean, minimal — for tech or startup brands
- elegant, luxury, gold accents — for premium brands
- playful, rounded, friendly — for kids or fun brands
- bold, strong, industrial — for sports or tools brands
Example prompt:
> elegant logo for a jewelry brand, thin lines, gold color, luxury feel, minimal, serif typography
The word "luxury" changes everything. Try it and see.
Use Color Words Carefully
Colors matter a lot for brand. But do not add too many. Two or three colors is enough.
I tell AI exact colors sometimes. Like "navy blue and white". Or "black and gold". This gives me more control.
If you do not say colors, AI picks random ones. Sometimes they look bad together. So be clear.
Example:
> minimalist tech logo, navy blue and light gray, clean geometric shape, flat vector, white background
Prompts for Full Brand Style
Logo is just start. A brand needs more. You can use AI to make full brand ideas too.
I use ChatGPT or Claude for this part. I ask for names, slogans, and color ideas.
Try this prompt in ChatGPT:
> Act as a brand designer. My brand sells organic tea. Give me 5 brand name ideas, a color palette with hex codes, and 3 slogan ideas. Keep style calm and natural.
This saves me hours. The AI gives many ideas fast. I pick ones I like and change them.
For color palette you can also ask:
> Give me a color palette for a modern fitness brand. 5 colors with hex codes and short reason for each.
My Mistakes You Should Avoid
I made many mistakes. Let me share so you skip them.
First mistake. I asked for text inside logo. AI is bad with text. Letters come out wrong. Better to add text yourself later. Just make the symbol with AI.
Second mistake. I used long prompts with too many words. The logo got complex. Short prompts give cleaner logos.
Third mistake. I did not say "white background". So background was messy. Always add "white background" or "plain background". It makes cutting out easier.
Final Tips From My Experience
Make many versions. Do not stop at first result. I always make 10 or more. Then pick best one.
Use simple edits after. AI gives you base idea. You clean it in a tool like Canva or Figma. Add real text there.
Save prompts that work. I keep a list in notes. When new project comes, I reuse and change them.
AI will not make perfect logo alone. But it gives strong start. For small brands and projects, this is enough. It saved me money and time. I hope these prompts help you too.
